Barajas Airport Project in Madrid
Aachen/Madrid: The new international airport in Madrid, which is due to be opened in early 2006, has been designed for 75,000,000 passengers a year and has a total building surface area of 1,100,000 m², of which 740,000 m² will be air-conditioned. The total airflow rate will be 8,000,000 m³/h, of which 750,000 m³/h will be delivered by outlets supplied by KRANTZ KOMPONENTEN.
The building complex is divided up into mainly two building blocks: Block 1: Terminal building 480,000 m² Block 2: Satellite building 260,000 m².
The departures and arrivals areas are in the same terminal building and have facade glazing on both sides of up to 1300 m long by 13 m high. These window facades are treated by 8,800 floor-mounted specially designed swivel jet nozzles DN 40 placed just below the glazing. The area treated by these units can be defined as a multi-functional area given that it has offices, shops, restaurants, toilets, boarding areas, arrivals areas, and general airport services areas.
For the internal upper level communication passageways in the satellite building there are 1,860 floor-mounted, specially designed window air curtain units, type FSG-1600, which serve to keep out the façade stratifying effect within the building. The internal height of the departures and arrivals areas is 25 m. The incident sun radiation on the building in Madrid in the month of July is 940 W/m² and the building heats up a lot during the day.
The central control room of the airport was equipped with 81 specially designed broad multiplex outlets with the disks in a special triangular-shaped mounting. These units were mounted in a specially shaped ceiling.
For this large-scale project KRANTZ KOMPONENTEN supplied a total of: 8,800 specially designed swivel jet nozzles DN 40, 1,860 specially designed window air curtain units, type FSG-1600, 81 specially designed broad multiplex outlets.
